The skin is the largest organ in the body, and without the proper nutrition chronic skin conditions can occur. Everything from what we eat, drink, put on our skin, breathe, and even think about affects our skin health. Toxins from synthetic skincare products, free radicals, poor digestion, and diet play a part in our skin’s health. So how can we improve our skin’s health? Here are our 10 foundations for beautiful skin.

  1. Drink High-Quality Water: There’s no surprise that water is at the top of our list for beautiful skin, but do you drink high-quality water? The water you drink should be filtered, alkaline, and have minerals for better absorption. We suggest starting your morning with ½ a lemon and ½ tsp sea salt in 8 oz of warm water.

  2. Vitamins & Minerals: Vitamins and minerals play such a big part in our skin’s health. The top two vitamins we suggest are Vitamin C and all B-Vitamins. MegaFood B-Complex or Biotin are fantastic options. As for minerals, try Inner Vitality or BIOCEAN for skin elasticity and collagen production.

  3. Anti-Inflammatory/Alkaline Diet: Small changes can make a massive difference for our gut health which affects our skin’s complexion. Fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds, healthy fats, sprouted grains, and fish are all anti-inflammatory. Try to add water-rich foods like citrus fruits, berries, leafy greens, and celery to alkaline the body. Learn more in our free Eating by Design program.

  4. Antioxidants: Antioxidants protect the skin from free radicals that damage the skin. Many herbs, supplements, and superfoods have antioxidants. Add clove, turmeric, oregano, berries, and green tea into your daily lifestyle for healthy skin.

  5. Detox: Herbs and supplements are a fantastic option to cleanse the body and promote healing naturally. Herbs like dandelion root, milk thistle, spirulina, chlorella, and burdock root are recommended as well as supplements like beet crystals, the Spirit of Health Skin Detox Powder, and tea cleanses.

  6. Balance Hormones: Skin flare-ups like acne are affected by hormones. No wonder during certain times of the month, breakouts may occur. We’ve found that NHI Femmenessence products and our Endocrine Support Powder work wonders to balance hormone levels. Sign up for our free Hormone Balancing Guide to learn more.

  7. Herbs & Essential Oils: In God’s design, he created herbal plants to support the body’s many functions. These herbs and essential oils work in harmony with the body for healing, strength, and beauty. Try adding frankincense and lavender oils into your natural skincare routine.

  8. Gut Health: Your digestion and the health of your gut are so important for your skin. Try our 10-Day Colon Cleanse followed by a high-quality probiotic to promote gut health and clear up skin conditions.

  9. Non-toxic Skincare: One of the best changes you can make for your skin is what you put on it. Your skincare products absorb into your bloodstream within 26 seconds, which means an average of 160 chemicals each day. To avoid these toxins, purchase natural products that are free from harmful chemicals and synthetics. We like Mad Hippie and RMS Beauty for clean skincare.

  10. Relieve Stress: The skin reacts to your stress levels and your sleep quality. When you don’t get enough sleep, cortisol levels increase, causing more stress on the body. Try taking a walk in nature, sitting in the sun, or deep breathing to relieve stress and establish a healthy evening routine to promote healthy sleep.
